VIC: voting underway in Burwood
After a month of mudslinging, voting is underway this morning in the Burwood seat of
former Victorian premier JEFF KENNETT.
Polling booths opened at eight o'clock but a final result is not expected until after
they close this evening at 6.00pm.
The ALP needs a 6.8% swing from the electorate's 34,964 voters to win the seat.
Late Liberal party polling shows the result may be close.
Labor will have 43 seats in the lower house if it wins Burwood, while the Liberal/Nationals
will be reduced to 42.
Labor also has the support of three independent MPs.
The seat is also being contested by Australian Greens candidate PHILIP CROHN, independent
STEPHEN MAYNE and PETER FERWERDA from the Democratic Labor Party.
