NSW: Former Cabramatta cop to be govt adviser: report
SYDNEY, Dec 9 AAP - Another strident critic of the NSW police service, former detective
sergeant Tim Priest, looks set to emerge from the career scrapheap to become a NSW Government
adviser.
The Sun-Herald reports that the former Cabramatta officer will formally accept a post
within the office of new Police Minister Michael Costa this week.
According to the report, the job will place the maligned whistleblower in a key role,
guiding his boss on the adaptation of two major police-based drug intervention programs
already widely implemented in schools throughout North America.
The newspaper said it was understood Mr Priest would also be asked to examine an organisational
review of the State's ageing Police and Community Youth Club network.
News of the appointment closely follows that of discarded assistant police commissioner
Geoff Schuberg to Mr Costa's community advisory council.
The move is being viewed as another slap in the face for beleaguered Police Commissioner
Peter Ryan, who was said to be privately fuming over Mr Schuberg's installation on Thursday,
the report says.
